Hello,

I am Fern Shubert and I seek your support for the NC Senate seat (District 35) that represents Union County and the Matthews-Mint Hill area of Mecklenburg. I am a CPA and I serve as the NC State Director of the National Right to Read Foundation. If you believe in honest government that works for all the people, not a government that just works for political cronies, I need your vote in the Republican primary in May and again in November.

Years ago I concluded voters should measure all candidates against three essential characteristics:

• Caring -Those who are indifferent to others should not be entrusted with public office.I care about the citizens of this state who are paying high taxes and receiving far less than they deserve from their government in return. I believe your representatives should treat others as they would wish to be treated themselves and not use the power entrusted to them for personal advantage.
• Competent – Translating good intentions into good results requires competence. As a successful CPA, with a record of achievement that includes national recognition by the US SBA for service to small business, I am uniquely qualified to deal with the many challenges facing our state. I warned against the policies that led to our current economic problems, and I have demonstrated my ability to succeed even when faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
• Conservative - Check the record. I don’t believe in wasting your money.

I have served three terms in the NC house and one term in the NC Senate. My fellow Republican Senators elected me Senate Republican Whip as a freshman Senator because of my effectiveness in the House. I left the Senate in 2004 to run for Governor to try to halt the many abuses of power I saw in Raleigh, and great progress has been made in exposing the corruption and removing many of the culprits.
