People Who Want Better Government
Are you fed up with backroom deals? Do you want someone who will uphold the Constitution and represent the public instead of working behind the scenes with the insiders who created our present financial crisis? Are you willing to become an active participant in government instead of merely hoping for the best?
If so, please become one of the People Who Want Better Government who are supporting Fern Shubert for NC Senate.
Fern’s record proves she can get things done without joining the insider team, and it shows she wants the public to know what is happening in government. For partial proof, take a look at the website saved from her 2004 run for Governor at www.4fern.com.
While you’re there, take a look at a few of her Raleigh Reports to learn what was really happening in Raleigh that most papers did not report. You’ll be amazed at how most major papers failed to report the malfeasance that led to Jim Black’s jail sentence and the current Mike Easley/Nick Danger soap opera. Not only did the papers fail to report Fern’s warnings, when she was running for Governor and trying to warn of the corruption in the Easley administration, an editor at the Charlotte Observer told her a lot of people thought she was nuts. Of course that was 2004, and the papers were still promoting Jim Black and Mike Easley as great and honorable public servants, just as they now protect their successors.
The folks who have been getting favors from the team that has been in power in Raleigh for years don’t want Fern Shubert back in the Senate. They’ll go to great lengths to stop her, and someone has already shown that by doing a dirty push poll to slander her before filing even began. Under the guise of a poll, anonymous callers were pushing the lie that Fern couldn’t get anything done because she couldn’t get along with people.
Just remember, Fern wasn’t elected Senate Republican whip as a freshman Senator because she was ineffective. And while it is true the backroom boys didn’t like having someone around reporting on and obstructing their activities, most people want their representative to work for them rather than conspiring against them. Honest people probably see the fact she didn’t go along with Black and Easley as a positive rather than a problem, particularly considering what she accomplished by pursuing an independent path.
She was first elected in a district so gerrymandered that no other Republican would run, and she advanced to the Senate by challenging a Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman widely recognized as one of the most powerful people in the state. She frequently changed the course of major legislation, and her business and accounting background will be even more valuable in these tough economic times.
During her prior legislative service, Fern won national recognition from the US Small Business Administration as the accountant who did the most in the nation for small business, plus the first award ever given a state representative for service to the industry by the North Carolina Electronics and Information Technology Association. She chaired the Education Committee when it passed the Excellent Schools Act, helped establish the first charter school in Union County (and even drew the names for the first class), and was instrumental in securing the funding to establish an accredited community college campus in Union County.
If you’re tired of monkey business as usual in Raleigh, help elect someone who has shown her independence and proven her effectiveness.
